Lee Chong Wei’s Suggestion Makes Lee Zii Jia Sure to Leave BAM All

KOMPAS.com – Malaysian Men’s Singles, Lee Zii Jia, claimed to have consulted with Lee Chong Wei before deciding to resign from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

As is known, Lee Zii Jia has just decided to leave BAM and choose to become a professional player.

Actually, Lee Zii Jia had submitted his resignation letter to BAM on January 11, 2022.

The decision of the 2021 All England men’s singles champion has also been reached after BAM held a meeting on Tuesday (17/1/2022).

However, the new BAM will deliver it in a press conference on Friday, January 21, 2022.

The President of BAM, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, said that he and the secretary general of BAM Kenny Goh had held a series of discussions with Lee Zii Jia.

They are trying to convince the Malaysian mainstay players to stay. Even so, Lee Zii Jia’s decision did not waver.

“After that, we brought this issue up in the board meeting because Zii Jia is our main asset. To be honest, we don’t want him to leave,” said Mohamad Norza, quoted by the Malaysian news agency, Bernama, Wednesday (19/1).

“So, after listening to all parties, the council discussed and made a decision,” he said.

In fact, Lee Zii Jia’s move to leave BAM was not done in a hurry.

The 23-year-old figure even asked for advice from Malaysian badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei.

“I also met with Datuk (Lee Chong Wei) to get his advice on various things,” said Lee Zii Jia, quoted from Stadium Astro.

“He also gave me a lot of advice both on and off the pitch, he taught me a lot,” he said.

“During this time, he helped me a lot. So in my opinion, he is a very good senior, he always shares his experiences,” he said.

Zii Jia also hopes that all parties can understand all his decisions to become a professional player.

The player who was born on March 29, 1998, even promised to continue to make Malaysia proud in the international badminton scene.

“As a player I just want to train, play well, and bring my name and give the best results for Malaysia,” he said.

“I think it doesn’t matter if it’s a professional or a national player, we are all fighting for the name of Malaysia,” he continued.

“We are playing in the same tournament. This is the reality,” he said.
