France completes table Tennis Sweep, Crowned European Team Champions
Malmö, Sweden - History was made today as the French men’s table tennis team secured the European Team championship title, defeating Romania in a decisive 3-0 victory. Led by the dynamic duo of Félix and Alexis Lebrun, alongside veteran Simon Gauzy, this marks France’s first european team championship win since 1998 and completes a remarkable continental sweep for the nation in 2025. The victory comes on the heels of Alexis Lebrun’s individual European singles title and the lebrun brothers’ triumph in the European doubles competition earlier this year.
This unprecedented achievement solidifies France’s position as a dominant force in European table tennis and signals a new era for the program. The win builds momentum heading into future international competitions, including potential bids for further Olympic and World Championship success. The French team’s ascent is notably noteworthy, having been formed just three years ago, and demonstrates a focused strategy and exceptional talent advancement.
The final against Romania was a commanding performance, with the French team dropping only two sets throughout the entire match. Simon Gauzy clinched the decisive point, mirroring the celebratory atmosphere that followed France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup win, as the team erupted in celebration to the unofficial anthem of Les Bleus.
“To make the European Grand Slam is huge. It’s extraordinary! It’s a great feeling of joy,” exclaimed coach Nathanaël Molin to Chaîne l’Équipe. “We promised it to each other, we managed to do it all together. It’s the story of this French team born three years ago and wich is overturning mountains. We had ambition,we proclaimed it,and we validated what we wanted.”
The French team’s success extends beyond the european stage, having recently earned a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and finishing as runners-up at the 2025 world Team Championships. This latest victory underscores their consistent performance and growing confidence as they continue to challenge for global dominance.
