The reopening of a vandalized gym in Borgo Nuovo, Italy, intended as a community party, has instead ignited a political dispute. Andrea Aiello, president of the fifth district, voiced his discontent with the eventS management, alleging it was overshadowed by partisan politics.

Aiello’s Disappointment: A “Gala Ceremony”

Aiello, a member of Forza Italia, attended the reopening of the Largo partinico facility but criticized the event’s perceived political slant.He expressed his concerns in a statement:

Unluckily I have to see with disappointment and a little bitterness that on the occasion of the recent reopening of the borgo Nuovo gym, which should have represented a moment of involvement for the entire community, the event turned into a gala ceremony whose main actors wore the party shirt of the Carroccio.

This Carroccio reference alludes to the presence of League representatives, including councilor for sport Alessandro Ring and deputy commissioner to the Ars, Vincenzo Figuccia, despite thier institutional roles.

Snub to the District President?

Aiello further claimed he was excluded from the ceremonial table, despite his long-standing involvement in the gym’s restoration efforts. He views this as a slight not just to himself, but to the entire district council.

Do not invite the undersigned president of the fifth district, to the ceremonies table, after for years he was the promoter of the many inspections, meetings and meetings with the mayor – adds Aiello – does not represent a personal offense but a lack of respect for the district and community council. Certainly the fact assumes the contours of a ‘institutional scarbo’ which I take note without going beyond the councilor who organized the event.

Accusations of Institutional Imbalance

Aiello escalated his criticism, suggesting that Councilor Ringa is deliberately avoiding collaboration with local institutions, potentially jeopardizing the revitalization of Borgo Nuovo.

The incident puts light a basic theme in light: the Councilor Ringa does not want to interact with the institutions of the place and this non -involvement risks undermining the necessary fundamental institutional balance especially for the rebirth of Borgo Nuovo. Therefore I hope that it is the mayor and the president of the city council will be able to supervise that access to the gym is rightly guaranteed to all the associations of the territory of Borgo Nuovo and to those very few members of the League.

Upcoming Karate Seminar

Despite the controversy, the gym, named after martial arts masters Antonino Calvaruso and vincenzo Scuderi, is set to host a karate seminar on April 27. The event, organized by the Fjlkam Italian Judo Federation, will feature young athletes from across Sicily.The Municipality entrusted the structure to the Federation in October 2024,following its reopening after six years of closure.
