League calls health authorities to meet on Belenenses-Benfica

Liga Portugal announced this Sunday that it requested a meeting, “as a matter of urgency”, to the Secretary of State for Health, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports and the Directorate-General for Health to obtain explanations on the actions of health authorities in relation to Belenenses-Benfica.

In the same statement, the organization led by Pedro Proença also revealed that it will meet this Monday, promising an “official note on all the matter involving the verified episodes” in the game between Belenenses and Benfica.

It is recalled that Benfica thrashed Belenenses by 7-0 in a game of the 12th round of the League, in a match in which the blues appeared on the field with only nine players, due to an outbreak of covid-19 in the squad. The meeting ended at 48 minutes due to lack of athletes in Jamor’s team.

The League communiqué:

«The Portugal League called an extraordinary Board meeting for this Monday, after which an official note will be released on the entire matter involving the episodes in the game between Belenenses SAD and SL Benfica, regarding the 12th round of the Portugal League bwin.

Under the same matter, an urgent meeting was also requested from the Secretary of State for Health, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports and the Directorate-General for Health, in order to obtain clear clarifications on the protocol health contingency in force in professional football competitions, specifically what were the procedures and criteria adopted in this case by the local Health Delegate to determine high-risk contacts within the Belenenses SAD squad.»
