British medical journal The Lancet on Friday called on US voters to elect a new president who will stop using “party politics” to direct public health.
In an acrimonious and unusual editorial, the Lancet, one of the world‘s leading medical journals, described the US administration’s response to the Corona virus epidemic as “inconsistent and inconsistent.”
“Americans should put a president in the White House in January 2021, who understands that public health should not be guided by partisan politics,” the editorial said.
This stance came on the same day that US President Donald Trump unveiled a widespread US government effort to rapidly develop a new vaccine for Corona virus by the end of the year.
Even without a vaccine, Trump said, the virus “will disappear.”
“The administration is obsessed with magic vaccines, new drugs or the hope that the virus will simply disappear,” the editorial said, adding that there should be a focus on “basic general principles” such as testing and tracking.
It is noteworthy that the United States leads the world in cases of coronavirus infection, with 1.4 million cases and more than 87,000 deaths.
