Le Matin – Closing of the proceedings of the Fifth World Conference of Presidents of Parliament

The Fifth World Conference of Presidents of Parliament, organized over two days in Austria by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, concluded its work on Thursday. This remote conference under the theme “Parliaments mobilized for a more effective multilateralism and for peace and sustainable development for the people and the planet”, was marked by workshops focused on the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 , climate-related issues and human mobility. The debates also focused on improving governance by reducing the gaps between Parliaments and peoples, establishing inclusive and sustainable economic systems, as well as the fight against terrorism and extremism.

During his participation in the workshop on human mobility, the President of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, highlighted the proactive approach adopted by the Kingdom for the regularization of the situation of immigrants on its territory since 2014 , especially those from sisterly African countries. In this regard, Mr. El Malki insisted on the need to adopt an inclusive approach in favor of this category, with a view to its involvement in the development process of host countries so that it is not perceived as a burden on society, says a House statement.

The work of the conference was crowned with the adoption of a declaration in which the Presidents of Parliament underlined the importance of multilateral management of international crises and sustainable development while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States. At the opening of the conference last Wednesday, the President of the House of Representatives spoke of the central role that Morocco plays in consolidating regional solidarity with African countries through pragmatic policies, recalling in this regard the initiative of HM King Mohammed VI towards African countries to stem the coronavirus pandemic in the continent as well as the sending, on the instructions of the Sovereign, of medical aid to 15 African countries.
