Large School Rankings: Riga Dominates, with Rising Stars
Riga schools continue to lead the way in the large school category, occupying the top four positions. maintaining its position as a national leader, these schools consistently demonstrate high academic standards. Notably, Riga Secondary School 40 has made important strides this year, climbing more than five places in the rankings. This impressive improvement reflects the school’s focused efforts and considerable potential for continued growth.Small School Competition: RTU High School of Engineering Leads, Latgale Schools Shine
The small school group sees a competitive landscape, with schools from Riga and the Latgale region vying for top spots. RTU High School of Engineering once again secures first place, marking its sixth consecutive year at the top. Supported by Riga Technical university, the school offers a unique opportunity for students nationwide, including free dormitory accommodations for regional pupils. The ranking creators emphasize its role in providing accessible,high-quality education.
Ludza City Secondary School follows in second place, showcasing strong performance this year. Riga Anninmuiza Secondary school maintains a steady presence in third,continuing its development and strengthening its position. Jaunsilava Elementary School in Livani county earns fourth place, recognized for its meticulous approach to education and student development. Rounding out the top five is Livani 1st High School, demonstrating consistent quality and a well-rounded educational experience.
Gymnasium Rankings: riga Schools Maintain Top Positions
In the gymnasium category, Riga State 1st Gymnasium remains firmly in first place, solidifying its reputation as a leading educational institution. Riga State 2nd Gymnasium has reclaimed the second position it held previously. The Riga State German Gymnasium has moved up two places to third. Jelgava Spidola State Gymnasium demonstrates significant progress, improving its ranking and showcasing strong student motivation and achievement. Riga Agenskalns State Gymnasium maintains its position within the top five.
About the Latvian School Ranking & the ATA Kronwald Foundation
The Latvian school ranking is a project of the ATA Kronwald Foundation, dedicated to identifying and supporting Latvia’s most talented students.Founded in 1988, the Foundation originated from a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, the Youth Company “Contact,” and a group of young scientists and teachers who organized a summer camp for gifted students.
Officially registered in 1993, the Foundation was initially led by Henrik Danusevich, Chairman of the Latvian Institute of Commerce. Currently, evija Papule, a respected figure in education, chairs the foundation’s Council. The Council comprises prominent individuals from diverse fields, including chemists Jānis Švirksts, biologists Jānis Liepiņš, geographers Uldis Klepers, mathematicians Andris Ambainis, physicists Vyacheslav Kaščejevs, and educators Sanita Baranova and baiba Kaiba Kaļķe.
