Latvia could change the rules of self-isolation for people returning from abroad – in Latvia – News

Taking into account that the incidence rate of Covid-19 in Latvia is increasing, Vinkele predicted that this Friday the 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants will be exceeded.

At the press conference, Sheķele informed that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (SPKC) has the right to adjust this threshold and it is likely that it will take place on Friday.

The Minister informed that this could implement the previously discussed scenario that Latvia would raise the threshold for the requirement of self-isolation after returning from the countries most affected by Covid-19 – self-isolation may not be required after arrival from countries with a 14-day cumulative morbidity rate of 100 per 100,000 population. This figure is currently 16.

The minister also admitted that if it did not succeed in limiting the spread of the infection, the threshold could be raised to 50, although the epidemiologist, the chief infectologist of the Ministry of Health Uga Dumpis, currently considers such a “leap” to be premature.

A spokesman for the SPKC, epidemiologist Yuri Perevoshchikov, added that raising the self-isolation requirement threshold to 25 cases per 100,000 would not require self-isolation after returning from three countries: Liechtenstein, Cyprus and Finland.

At the same time, Vinkele admitted that as the number of infected people increases, Latvia may have to reconsider “how freely we live”. The Minister acknowledged that one of the closest instruments to be implemented is the requirement to use masks, but the last instrument is the replacement of face-to-face training with distance learning. At the same time, it is possible to review the number of people allowed to gather and the opening hours of public catering establishments.

It has already been reported that 95 cases of Covid-19 cases were registered in Latvia last day, which is the largest number of cases detected per day so far, according to the data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

According to the information available to the SPKC, 63 patients have been infected from previously known sources of infection, four have been infected abroad – in Ukraine, Russia and Austria, but the conditions of infection are being clarified for 28 persons and the epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
