It was the day before yesterday, Saturday 24 September 2022, that Marc Carles, Mayor of Latour-de-France, had invited the medical interns as part of their discovery weekend in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. Many elected officials, including Senator Jean Sol (LR / Les Républicains), his deputy, Carole Del Poso, Charles Chivilo (PS), mayor of Maury, departmental councilor, president of the Community of the municipality of Agly-Fenouillèdes, Lola Beuze (PCF) The departmental councilor was also involved. The elect are wrong who think they can avoid this deterioration of health, because for the moment they are protected from turpitude. They will carry a heavy responsibility in front of their constituents, for not standing up from their seats, for not being in solidarity with other elected officials.

If Jean Sol did everything possible to prepare this initiative, Marc Carles did everything to make it a success, bringing a note of hope for a better consideration of health in our rural environment. The medical interns present were able to appreciate the reserved welcome and get a taste of the good life in Fenouillèdes.

Marc Carles, recalling the history of the town in a few words, had to remember that in the 14th century there was a hospital in the town, certainly modest. As he had to point out, at the time the notions of profitability did not exist, or in any case they were not placed in the same way.
Saying angry, which we understand, he had to describe the bad life of citizens in front of a brand new multidisciplinary health center, paid with our taxes, but devoid of any practitioners. Once again he had to express a feeling of abandonment in the face of the urban medical desert, but also the peri-urban one that is settling in our country. He could see that the measures taken to stop this bleeding had no effect. Therefore, although health problems are the responsibility of the state, local elected officials are stepping up efforts to fill the gaps.
The demonstration had to be made, that the elected officials of the territory are at the forefront of the interrogation of the inhabitants of our municipalities without doctors. It should do it in these terms: “The elect are within reach of the slap”. An expression that expresses the situation well.
Many interested parties
The medical interns, underlining the concrete reality experienced by our fellow citizens in the field, had to throw an essential light to hope to walk together in the same direction, with elected officials, thanks to a policy of cooperation.
Prevention passes through health personnel, it must be said, while we are witnessing a global shortage of these same personnel. For this reason, serious problems also arise in the hospital.
It is a health organization that needs to be redefined, as they should have pointed out in the words of the interns.

A little shocked by time, the evening continued with an introduction to the Sardana where the tasting of our best wines was not forgotten. Subsequently, an aperitif followed by a friendly meal where discussions could continue, had to be accompanied by a dance.
The conviviality that Marc Carles and his municipal council are accustomed to, therefore, should give hope that the struggle for a healthy future in our rural areas is not just a chimera.
