Latin rhythms, classics and jazz are played in Dzintari Concert Hall / Article / LSM.lv

The concert, which will feature both temperamental Latin rhythms and classical music and jazz improvisations, will be performed on October 2 at Dzintari Concert Hall. In the cycle “Jūrmala Jazz”, the Latvian Radio Big Band and the Danish jazz violinist Line Kruse living in France will take the stage.

The Latvian Radio Big Band has cherished the opportunity to play music with the Danish violinist and composer Lini Krusi living in Paris for two years. Thanks to the French saxophonist and arranger Pierre Bertran, this wish has finally come true. Line Kruse has given many concerts with the well-known “Gotan Project” in Latvia, she has also conducted several large ensembles, orchestras and also the non-traditional jazz big band “Line Kruse Orchetra”. At the heart of her work are the rhythms of South American music.

“I have been influenced by several South American countries.

European music traditions seem conservative to me, while the art of playing music in Cuba and Argentina inspires me, ”notes Line Kruse.

According to the musicians of the Latvian Radio big band, serious preparation was needed before playing with Lini Krusi.

“I had to do a little research, and Lina helped a lot, because she knows the history of Latin American rhythms quite well and sent a lot of material that I could listen to and understand what she wants specifically,” says Artis Orubs, drummer of the Latvian Radio big band. “Such music rarely comes to play, and rarely comes to play with people who really know what’s going on there. I would like to do more, because there is a lot to learn from it. ”

The leader of the Latvian Radio Big Band, saxophonist Kārlis Vanags points out: “The rhythms of the South American or Cuban people are treated individually as such a completely individual unit. But we are used to reading notes. So we see it graphically, we can count it, but maybe we don’t catch the feeling from the beginning. ”

The Danish violinist Kruse believes that the Danes themselves do not have a particularly strong musical tradition, especially when it comes to rhythm. She compares it to a white page on which you can write anything.

“I have had countless opportunities to make music, and it cannot be said that I play in the traditional way, I do it only in my own way.

And all the Cubans, Argentines or Peruvians who have heard me say that I got along very well, ”notes the violinist.

Lines Kruse and Latvian Radio big band concert in Dzintari Concert Hall will delight jazz music lovers on October 2.
