Cases of influenza have been reported from the practice of family doctors in Jūrmala. Patients are aged between five and 14 years and between 15 and 64 years.

There were no cases of influenza reported by inpatient facilities last week.

Outpatient admissions for acute upper respiratory tract infections were also lower than last week. On average, 895.4 cases per 100,000 population were registered, which is only slightly more than in the first week of November, when 882.4 cases per 100,000 population were registered.

The number of detected cases of pneumonia decreased last week. In total, nine patients or 9.8 cases per 100,000 population have reported outpatient cases of pneumonia, which is ten less than in the last week of October, when 19 such cases were registered. The report explains that patients’ turnout for pneumonia last week was also lower than in previous seasons over the same period.

General education institutions were attended by 63.2% of students last week, which is 1.7 percentage points less than in the first week of November. The low attendance can be explained by distance learning for students from 7th grade. In turn, 72.1% of registered children attended pre-school educational institutions, while in the first week of November the attendance was 75.5%.

No deaths have been reported in patients with confirmed influenza infection since the start of the season, which runs from 28 September to 4 October.

Last season, the SPKC collected information on 26 fatalities, while in the previous season 2018-2019, 86 deaths were registered.

According to the report, influenza activity in the WHO European Region remained interseasonally in the first week of November.

Due to the start of the flu season, the SPKC has issued a statement on the social network “Twitter” urging the population to observe distancing not only to prevent infection with Covid-19, but also with the flu.
