Family’s Dreams Dashed in Air India Flight Tragedy
Radiologist and Kin Perish in Ahmedabad-London Bound Flight
The joyous reunion of a family took a devastating turn when their Air India flight crashed shortly after takeoff. The family was poised to begin a new chapter in England, but instead, they became a tragic footnote to an aviation disaster that claimed 241 lives.
A Family’s Anticipated Reunion
Prateek Joshi, a radiologist, relocated to England’s Royal Derby Hospital from India in 2021. Initially, his wife, Komi Vyas, and their three kids moved with him, but later returned to India. Vyas, a doctor, planned to rejoin her husband; she quit her job, and the entire family was set to relocate.
Joshi traveled to India to bring back his spouse, their twin five-year-old sons, and their eight-year-old daughter. They were to fly from Ahmedabad to London on Thursday. Before boarding, the family took a final selfie together.
The Flight’s Tragic End
Tragically, mere moments after the plane departed, it crashed, taking the lives of 241 people. Only one passenger, Vishwashkumar Rameh, 38, survived the horrific incident.
“It is as if someone from our department was cut away. Joshi was generous, always willing to help. Nothing was too much for him. He worked with courtesy, courtesy and with good manners. The tragic thing is that he was getting better and we will never know what he could have achieved.”
—Manog Ramtohal, Colleague
According to recent data, the worldwide airline fatality rate in 2023 was 0.19 per million flights, underscoring the rarity of such catastrophes (Aviation Safety Network).
Remembering the Family
The community gathered in the Hindu Temple of Derby to honor the family. Neil Ryan, a previous neighbor, described their deaths as “absolutely devastating.”
Mario Dimitrio Donadio, a radiologist who worked with Joshi, stated that Joshi was excited about the reunion. Their new life in the United Kingdom was within reach.
