– Nira Tandon, who had been controversial due to the ‘last word’ power, was eventually defeated by the nominee of the White House Budget Office (OMB). This is the first person nominated by US President Joe Biden.

According to Reuters and others on the 2nd (local time), the White House withdrew the nomination of Nira Tandon, Director of Budget Management.

In a statement, President Biden said, “We have accepted Tandon’s request to withdraw the nomination.” However, he said, “I am looking forward to the role of Tandon in the administration,” suggesting the possibility of appointing another position.

“Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to get approval,” Tandon wrote to the White House. “I don’t want to interfere with the president’s other priorities.”

Tandon was nominated as head of budget management in December of last year. Tandon, who served as chairman of the American Progressive Center (CAP), a progressive non-profit organization, was controversial as he swears at a former Republican politician. Republican lawmakers strongly opposed the approval of Tandon, saying it was “toxic like a radioactive substance.”

Tandon erased about 1,000 posts on SNS (social network service) in the past, but opposition flowed not only within the Republican Party but also within the Democratic Party. Senator Joe Manchin of the Democratic Party said he opposed the nomination, saying, “I think that Tandon’s partisan remarks will be poisonous in his work with lawmakers.”

Tandon was born in Massachusetts to parents of Indian immigrants. In 1992, he served in the presidential camps of several Democratic candidates, including Bill Clinton and former President Barack Obama in 2008. When former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was a senator, he worked as a staff, but an e-mail was released by WikiLeaks that said behind the scenes that “Clinton’s political sense is suboptimal.”
