Larry Tesler, inventor of copy-paste, died

Computer scientist Larry Tesler died at the age of 74. Tesler is an icon in the IT world because of its many innovations that made the PC easier for everyone to use. The best known of these are the ‘cut’ (control X), ‘paste’ (control V) and ‘copy’ (control C) commands.

Tesler started his career in Silicon Valley in the early 60s, when the use of computers was still in its infancy. He specialized in designing technologies that made computers more user-friendly.

For the ‘cut’ and ‘paste’ commands, he was allegedly inspired by the old way of editing texts, where pieces of text were cut out and glued to a different location. These commands were included in Apple’s software in 1983. They were also introduced in Microsoft Windows.
