Large Tyrolean house became uninhabitable due to fire

A large apartment building in Auffach (district Kufstein) was badly damaged by a fire on Sunday. At first around 1.20 p.m. a barn caught fire for an unknown cause, then the flames spread to several small stables and the former pension. The building, which housed 19 people, was evacuated. A 58-year-old was slightly injured.

According to the police, the extinguishing work was extremely difficult. The reason for this was not only the exposed location of the house, but also its roof structure. The fire brigade, which was deployed with around 200 men, had to open the entire roof for the extinguishing work. At around 11:00 am “fire out” was finally given.

It is not yet certain whether the apartment building can be renovated. All the stables and wooden sheds together with the housed equipment and the roof structure of the house were destroyed. The cause of the fire has already been investigated and will be continued on Monday with the involvement of experts.

The 19 residents, who belong to a Christian community and who are farming, were initially housed in the multi-purpose hall of the Auffach fire department. This was converted into an emergency sleeping place.
