‘Large-scale action’ by farmers at Lidl distribution center in Heerenveen, mayor Van der Zwan hopes for ‘worthy demonstration’

In app groups, a ‘large-scale action’ will be announced for ‘farmers and fellow citizens’ at Lidl’s distribution center in Heerenveen for Monday morning.

The intention is to create a blockade so that ‘the shelves will remain empty’. Mayor Tjeerd van der Zwan is aware of the plans. “We have tried to make arrangements with the organizers and hope for a worthy demonstration,” he says.

Van der Zwan does not know how big the turnout will be. The group moves from the Thialf ice stadium to the distribution center at a quarter to nine.

“Should it become too busy or chaos arises so that no safety can be guaranteed, we will enter into discussions with the police,” the app message reads. “We are against violence and we don’t drive on the highways.”
