MÜLHEIM AN DER RUHR (GERMANY): A large commercial complex has been burning in Mülheim an der Ruhr since the early morning of February 8, 2021. 144 firefighters from the Rhine district of Neuss, the district of Mettmann and Düsseldorf are now moving in to relieve the around 250 emergency services on site.

In Mülheim an der Ruhr, an approximately 120,000 square meter commercial complex in the Mülheim-Speldorf district has been burning since Monday morning. There are currently around 250 emergency services involved in the extinguishing work. Since these will drag on for several hours, the Mülheim fire brigade requested support at an early stage.

According to a nationally planned concept, 144 fire brigades from the Rhine district of Neuss, the district of Mettmann and Düsseldorf have been assembled since the morning to replace the fire fighters in Mülheim on site. The meeting point for around 30 emergency vehicles is the parking lot in Düsseldorf-Stockum. From there, the closed association then drives towards the fire station in Mülheim an der Ruhr. After that, the emergency services are relieved at the scene of the fire.

For many years there have been fixed concepts in North Rhine-Westphalia for supra-local support for fire and rescue services. This can be requested by all fire brigades and is used regularly for large-scale operations.

The Düsseldorf fire brigade also received support from the entire Ruhr area in January 2020 for an evacuation as part of a munitions disposal in the Derendorf district.

The units are currently on the way to Mülheim. From Düsseldorf, the volunteer fire brigades Angermund and Garath as well as the technical and communication train of the volunteer fire brigade support the forces at the Flughafenstrasse location. Units of the German Red Cross from Düsseldorf also accompany the association to supply the emergency services. A measuring vehicle of the environmental protection train of the volunteer fire brigade has already moved to Mülheim in advance to carry out measurements on site with other fire brigades.
