Landing in 10 regions of South Jakarta and East Jakarta has the potential to move, what is the trigger?

Jakarta

DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has announced a potential early warning ground motion in Jakarta through his Instagram. As many as 10 areas in South and East Jakarta are in the central area where ground movement can occur if rainfall is higher than normal. What’s the impact?

Sumaryono, coordinator of earthwork mitigation, PVMBG, geology agency, ministry of energy and mineral resources, explained that, in general, landslides have a number of triggers for one type of earthwork. Call it, rain, earthquakes, a combination of rain and earthquakes and human activity.

As for rainfall, he said, when rainfall is high, water flow to the ground is greater. This causes the pressure to build up so that the potential for landslides is high.

“When rainfall is high, water infiltration into the soil is also high, as a result the driving force is higher/pore water pressure increases. Meanwhile, on the river banks, erosion also increases so that the potential for landslides is high,” he told detik.com via text message on Sunday (4/12/2022).

Meanwhile, landslides caused by earthquakes are caused by the effects of tremors on steep slopes, water saturation, soil erosion.

He continued, the impact of ground movement from rain is not necessarily large. According to him, the impact of this ground movement can be minimized if anticipated in advance.

“If the river already has a talud, even minimal erosion can be reduced, landslides can be minimized,” he said.

Quoted from Instagram BPBD DKI Jakarta, referring to PVMBG sources, there are 10 areas which are located in central area in South Jakarta namely Cilandak, Jagakarsa, Kebayoran Baru, Kebayoran Lama, Mampang Prapatan, Pancoran, Pasar Minggu districts and Pesanggrahan. For East Jakarta, namely Kramatjati District and Pasar Rebo.
