The utility version of the new defender should offer a unique combination of storage space, practicality and comfort. In addition, it revives one old iconic name.

The new utility defender was given the name Hard Top, which the carmaker first used in 1950. At that time, the Land Rover Series 1 was first given a demountable fixed roof, which protected the crew from bad weather and significantly increased the usability of the car.
However, the modern successor already has a solid roof without the possibility of disassembly. It should be available, at least for the British market, later this year in a three-door version with a 90 mark and a five-door version with a 110 mark.

The development of the Defender Hard Top is due to the Land Rover SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) division, thanks to which the novelty should offer the previously mentioned unique combination of storage space, practicality and comfort in one of the most capable and durable machines on the commercial vehicle market.
„We’ll maximize the functionality and usability of the new Defender’s cargo hold with durable materials and cleverly designed storage to ensure it exceeds the capabilities of previous Hard Top Defenders.“Said Michael Van Der Sande, Executive Director of the SVO Division, in a press release.

Versions 90 and 110 will receive independent suspension with springs, but the longer version will also offer a sophisticated electronic air suspension system. Both models should offer excellent conditions for off-road driving, which is also confirmed by their technical parameters.
The longer version 110 with the optional chassis, set to the highest Off-Road mode, offers a ground clearance of 291 mm, an approach angle of up to 38 °, a crossing angle of 28 ° and a rear approach angle of 40 °. The new wading system within the Terrain Response 2 system will then offer the possibility of wading to a depth of up to 900 mm. However, we will see the publication of complete technical parameters later.

The new Defender Hard Top tightens up to 3.5 tons on the towing device, which should make it a great worker with a 4×4 drive even in more demanding terrain. In addition, the Advanced Tow Assist system should make maneuvering with the attached tow. The driver will be guided by the lift using the rotary selector in the center console, while the car will take care of the rest.
In addition, you can use the increased space in the interior, which was created by removing the rear rows of seats. The view from a fully loaded car is then facilitated by the ClearSight mirror, which displays footage from a camera located in the roof antenna. Thanks to the front bench with a middle seat, the cab can also accommodate up to three passengers.

The icing on the cake is the support of “Twin eSIM technology”, which is the basis for the operation of the modern Pivi Pro infotainment and the possibility of wireless updates SOTA (Software-Over-The-Air). This will allow car owners to download improvements to a number of on-board systems, which should further facilitate the use of the car without the need to drive for service updates.
