The Lambayeque region received its first batch of the monkeypox vaccine, a total of 650 doses that will serve to protect –in principle– people living with HIV or are exposed to the virus through their sexual activity, reported the Regional Management of Health (Geresa).

There will be some establishments that will offer this vaccine –exclusively to the aforementioned target population–, such as hospitals Almanzor Aguinaga (Essalud)Las Mercedes and Regional and the first level health centers Túpac Amaru and José Olaya.

Two dose protection

Enríquez explained that an inactivated vaccine will be administered. “There are two doses that must be applied: one at the first contact with the patient and the second at 28 days“.

“We can say that, at the national and regional level, the incidence of this disease has decreased and we are also reinforcing prevention measures. It is important that the target population go to the centers where they receive their treatment and have access to the vaccine,” Enríquez declared.

Vaccination will be carried out according to the nominal register managed by both the Regional Health Management and Essalud, of patients receiving antiretroviral treatment. They will be summoned at different times to be protected with the two doses against monkeypox.
