Lady Gaga, 34, offered Billie Eilish, 18, to be her mentor after discovering that Eilish does not have a regular female confidant in the music industry. That tells the Pokerface-singer to Zane Lowe from Apple Music.
Gaga says she sent Eilish flowers and a letter after the young singer won five Grammy Awards earlier this year. With this she wanted to let Eilish know that she is there for her when needed. “It’s healing for me because it hurt me that I didn’t have anyone to do it for me. I’m going to do it for someone else,” said Gaga.
“It was difficult for me to have a female mentor. Apart from Céline Dion and Carole King, it was difficult to find someone to show me the way,” says Gaga. “So I really hope that young female artists – or young artists with a different sexual or gender identity – know that I am there for them.” It is not known whether Eilish accepted Gaga’s offer.
Gaga also said that she does have a male mentor: Elton John. “He’s been my mentor for a long time,” said Gaga. “He has always challenged me to keep my head above water and that is something I really appreciate.”
