  • The Glarus Chocolatier Läderach fires 27 employees.
  • These include employees who have worked for Läderach for almost 20 years.
  • Several of the dismissed men are about to leave the pension.
  • It is not the first time that Läderach has been criticized.

The Glarus Chocolatier Läderach fires a total of 27 employees. Läderach attributes the layoffs to the corona crisis in an email that is available to Tamedia newspapers. Among the layoffs are employees who had served Läderach for almost two decades. In keeping with the Läderach motto “Chocolate Family”.

Now this family is not exactly squeamish: the layoffs include those who are about to retire. Because of their age, it is difficult for them to find another job anyway.

Now, in the Corona crisis, it is much more difficult. You see yourself as “unfortunately forced” to take this step, Chairman of the Board of Directors Jürg Läderach and Managing Director Johannes Läderach are quoted.

No social plan

There is no social plan. Specifically, this means: no severance payments and no possibility of early retirement. That annoys the employees, as the Tamedia newspapers report.

From 30 layoffs, a social plan must be submitted. Several dismissed employees now speculate that Läderach intentionally kept the number of layoffs below 30 in order to be able to dispense with a social plan. Because: Other employees were offered new contracts – but on such bad terms that Läderach expected voluntary termination, one employee suspects.

Boycott early in the year

Läderach is not the first to be criticized. At the beginning of the year it became known that the Läderach family took fundamental Christian positions and campaigned against abortions. The head of the Läderach group is considered homophobic. Läderach was subsequently boycotted by various social circles.
