The Russian carmaker has decided to stop selling its cars in Western Europe because it would be too expensive to adapt to emission standards. However, German Lada sellers are demanding that sales be maintained.

In recent years, the carmaker Lada has primarily focused on the domestic Russian market, yet it has continued to operate officially in selected markets in Western Europe, specifically in Germany, where it still relatively successfully offered, for example, the legendary offroad 4×4, also known as Niva. Last year, however, it announced that it had decided to withdraw from European Union markets. However, local dealers are against.
The end in the European Union is explained by the brand by strict emission standards, or the costs associated with meeting them. It is not only the need for more advanced technology under the hood, but also additional costs, such as a fee for approving a small series of vehicles. Lady’s management has thus decided that due to low margins, adapting her cars to the conditions of the European Union will no longer pay off. Especially when there is also competition from the alliance’s own stable, in the form of Dacia, which also belongs to the wings of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

However, there have been voices that do not agree with the Tolyatti manufacturer’s move, calling for sales of his cars to continue in the European Union. At the head of these votes is the German representation of Lady, which even created a petition for the preservation of Lady in the EU. So far, over 1,500 people have signed it.
“Lada has a wide range of interesting models that are available to everyone. In addition, for forty years, the brand has a loyal group of fans and buyers in Germany and the EU, “ representatives of the German representation of Lada explain why the carmaker should remain in the union. Last year, according to statistics from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), 4,954 Lada cars were registered in the EU last year, 3.8% less than a year earlier.

In addition, the petition may not be unsuccessful. Already last year, there were voices from Tolyatti that leaving the EU is only temporary until the sale of the brand pays off again. There has even been talk that Lada could even become a global brand in the future. It would be enough to take full advantage of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. For the second time, this year’s coronavirus pandemic and the associated decline in car sales around the world do not add much to such plans, on the contrary.

Despite the relatively strong community, Lada has not officially sold on the Czech market for some time. However, there are independent dealers who can bring her cars to us from abroad. Thanks to this, in the past we were able to ride, for example, with a representative of the latest generation of Lada cars – the Vesta sedan and the derived Vesta SW Cross off-road station wagon.
