Labor claims employed persons committed unemployment insurance fraud

The secretary of the Department of Labor and Human Resources (DTRH), Carlos Rivera, reported that fraud cases are not only related to the Pandemic Unemployment Program (PUA), since private employees who have received their salary during the pandemic have applied for unemployment insurance.

“There is talk of the PUA but many people are also unemployed. There are employers communicating with the Labor Department, submitting lists of people who have received the notification claiming unemployment and it did not correspond to them because they have been working or the employer has been paying them,” he said. Rivera in an interview with WKAQ.

The Labor minister said that notifications from employers arrive almost daily. “Yesterday a folder arrived that was quite voluminous, from an employer,” he added.

210,000 people will receive the $ 300 weekly

On the other hand, the head of Labor indicated that a retroactive payment of $ 900 will be made for the $ 300 weekly approved for unemployment by the Executive Order of President Donald Trump, once the federal government disburses the money to Puerto Rico.

“If you receive $ 99, $ 66 a week does not qualify,” said the head of Labor, adding that the rules are established by the federal government.

Metro consulted DTRH to find out if PUA beneficiaries would receive the payment of $ 900, and the agency explained that with the opening of the new FastPua portal, the beneficiaries were monetarily redetermined, so there are people who receive more than $ 100 for this aid. federal.

Finally, the official said that in Puerto Rico approximately 210,000 people will qualify for the payment of $ 900.

The Pandemic Unemployment Program (PUA) was created by the Cares Act for people who are self-employed and their income has been affected by the pandemic.
