Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Begin Fall Camp under Sonny Cumbie, focused on new offensive Identity and “Take It” Mentality

RUSTON, LA – The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs officially commenced their 2025 fall camp on Thursday morning, marking the start of year four under head coach Sonny Cumbie. The team held its inaugural practice on the grass fields of the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex, with Cumbie expressing confidence in the team’s preparedness.

Cumbie highlighted the team’s strength and chemistry as key factors heading into camp, attributing much of this readiness to the work of head strength coach Dave Scholz during the spring and summer months. “What I saw today was a prepared football team,” Cumbie told reporters following the practice. “Even though you have some anxious moments before a game or practice, maybe you have some excitement, maybe you have some jitters that maybe won’t be ther tomorrow,or maybe thay will be,I think our football team was very well prepared and that’s a credit to our coaches.”

The Bulldogs’ head coach also conveyed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, citing the talent level and the strong camaraderie within the squad. “I’m excited for this football team,I’m excited about this season because of the players A,the talent level of our players and the chemistry and camaraderie that we have in this team.”

Center Landon Nelson shared his viewpoint on the team’s new offensive scheme, noting the progress made throughout the summer. “We have been out there all summer practicing with the new offense and getting more pleasant with it as we go,” Nelson stated. “As far as the identity goes, coach Franklin has done a great job of establishing the fact of what we are going to do and how we are going to do it. We are going to be real detailed and we always have a long ways to go, but we are going to go a long way.”

Linebacker Kolbe Fields elaborated on the team’s adoption of coach Olson’s “take it mindset.” “You approach it with everything,” Fields explained. “You go to the meeting and you try to take something away from the meeting, you go on the field and you try to take the football, you walk in the classroom, you try to take the classroom. It’s just a mentality, whatever we go into we are trying to win and take it. we do not want anything given to us,if we gave to go out and get it,we will do what we have to do.”

The start of fall camp signifies the beginning of the Bulldogs’ preparations for the 2025 season, with a focus on integrating new strategies and fostering a competitive team culture.
