La Jornada – Use of filters, option against contamination by bottled water

Bottled water not only generates environmental problems, but also health problems, due to the effects caused by the plastic used in the containers, as shown by data from multilateral organizations.

Mexico is the country with the highest consumption of bottled water per capita, where, ironically, 72.2 percent of households that opt for bottles and jugs do so for health reasons. However, the plastic of bottles and jugs contain a chemical called Bisphenol A (BPA), which in contact with heat contaminates the water.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the adverse effects of BPA are related to prostate and breast cancer, obesity, diabetes, acceleration of aging, cardiovascular diseases, deterioration in the immune system, as well as early puberty, changes in humor and hyperactivity in the case of children.

Simón Dabbah, Director of Innovation at the Mexican company Maim, points out the importance of consuming the vital liquid through healthier and more environmentally friendly means, such as the use of water filters.

Maim is an example of a Mexican company that has managed to reduce the consumption of bottled water in Mexico and Latin America and is that “it was the first company that brought water purifiers and filters with alkaline option in a rental scheme to Mexico and today it is still the the only company with the largest private inventory of water quality testing laboratories, ”said the 22-year-old executive.

He explained that Maim uses an intelligent water purification system that provides cold, warm, and alkaline water, and that it has managed to reduce the consumption of jugs, water bottles and basic filters in more than 15 thousand homes.

He stressed that there is much more technology behind Maim, which has allowed it to expand into Latin America, prepare for its launch in the United States, even attracting the attention of Israel, the pioneer country in home water purifiers, said Simón Dabbah.

“We do not realize the expenditure on jugs, but a middle-class family spends 756 pesos a month on jugs. Our Eco-Maim starts at 229 pesos a month and Maim’s objective is to provide benefits, ”said the executive.

Dabbah explained that with Maim water purifiers and filters, tons of plastic consumption per year in jugs and bottles have been reduced.

In addition, the Mexican company, committed to caring for the environment, operates without paper.

Everything is programmed in a system where the operation of all its equipment is monitored in real time, and all processes work only by digital means, including the contract with customers and monitoring of service satisfaction.

Maim is controlled by WiFi, it gives water options, cold, at the same time, hot, alkaline and currently its Innovation and Development team is working to create versions of Maim that provide mineral water, its Maim coffee version, as well as the option of flavors. His goal is to change our fluid intake to everything from a single computer and a single click, Simon Dabbah abounded.
