Behind the pseudonym of joliebrunette_ and its more than 14,000 subscribers on Instagram, the social network for sharing photos, there is Julie Brunet, 23 years old. Originally from Dollon and after her high school years at La Ferté-Bernard, she has been studying English, Russian and Chinese in Lyon and, for a year, has shared her daily life and subjects that touch her by advocating the natural and the positive. . She explains to us why this activity matters to her.
Le Maine Libre: How did your Instagram account develop?
Julie Brunet: “When I arrived in Lyon, I did a first photo shoot with a photographer, I shared the photos on Instagram and gradually I was able to develop my model activity. But with Covid-19, I started posting a lot more photos of my daily life and gained over 10,000 subscribers. I am often told that I have an optimistic side, that I am able to talk about everything and that I share my joie de vivre. You inevitably attract more people if you are positive and open. “

Who is your audience?
“They are mainly men. I was not expecting this and I would like to be followed by more women, but I use it: I share a lot of things about femininity, contraception, natural beauty… I receive messages in return from men who thank me, they are interested, they see the daily life of an average girl. “
What messages are you sending?
“Creating my account allowed me to discover myself, I have evolved a lot. I advocate the natural: no filter, retouching or makeup. Today I follow accounts that I did not follow before, those of women who break the codes of Instagram and who remind us that social networks are not reality. This is what I try to show on my small scale: there is a lot of superficiality, you have to be careful, especially for teenage girls, who are more easily influenced. It’s important that they don’t compare themselves to models with millions of subscribers who only have edited or filtered photos. “

How much time per day do you spend there?
“I get a lot of messages and spend hours answering them all. It’s not the same time as on my private account where I watch other people’s posts. There I can only watch the messages I receive, the statistics, the reactions to what I publish… It has become a hobby. “
Could it become your job?
“I don’t have a specific goal. Accounts that have more than 10,000 subscribers, there are plenty and it is too little to live on. So we’ll see what happens. I would like it to evolve even more, to have more subscribers but for the moment I cannot tell myself that it could be a job, I am far from it. Instagramers collaborate with brands, I don’t have enough subscribers and if I had enough, what could I share with them? I have absolutely no idea! I live from day to day, I move forward and I will see. For now, what it brings me is enough for me. “
And what exactly does that bring you?
“I remain totally in the improvisation, on a whim I’m going to talk about a subject in relation to a question asked to me for example. I interact with my subscribers, I answer their questions, we share advice, points of view. I have a small community and know I can count on it if I have a question. I have always liked reaching out to others, I need sharing and contact: Instagram gives me all that, especially during the Covid-19 period. With the first confinement, I clung to it a lot. People were also at home, it brought us closer. “
What are the negative sides of this network?
“I don’t have many, I’m lucky. There are just flirtatious messages from men who want to get to know each other and try their luck. It’s not bad, but when you get 10 or 15 a day, it’s heavy. “

How did those around you experience your sudden popularity on Instagram?
“My family doesn’t necessarily look at my account. My parents are a little reluctant when I post pictures of a vacation in a swimsuit for example, they remind me to be careful because a lot of people can see it. But they follow it from afar. My friends are proud of me and happy, they didn’t think that one day I would be able to have this community. “
Is this activity still well understood?
“Some people do not understand that it can take on such a scale. Also because they don’t understand that we spend so much time on social networks and on our phone so they don’t think we can develop a business there, they don’t see the usefulness. “
What do you answer them?
“I feel useful in the exchange with my subscribers: we share, we learn things. I try to convey certain messages especially to the men who follow me and when I have answers thanking me, I feel proud and useful. The main thing is that I do something that I like. As long as it generates positive, it’s good. “
