Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets wants the NBA logo to be changed. The point guard campaigned via Instagram to ensure that Kobe Bryant will grace the silhouette of the best basketball league in the world.
“It has to happen and I don’t care what anyone says,” Irving wrote on Instagram under a picture of the NBA logo with the late Kobe Bryant about it. “Black kings built this league.”
For now, another former Lakers star graces the NBA logo, Jerry West. This has been in place since 1969, over the years the logo has been adapted a little, most recently in 2017.
Irving and Bryant were friends, the two trained together more often. The friendship began in the summer of 2012 when Irving challenged Kobe to a one-on-one at a Team USA camp.
The legend of the Los Angeles Lakers died in a helicopter crash near Los Angeles in January last year. All nine passengers died, including Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
