KV Mechelen strengthens technical staff with Steven Defour: “Win-win for everyone” | Jupiler Pro League

Just over a month ago, Steven Defour announced that he would hang his football boots on the hook after this season. Today he announced what he will do from next season: he will start working for KV Mechelen as a trainer.

“I wanted to stay in football anyway,” explains Defour. “And for me there was only one place to do that. In addition, I am really charmed by the staff and the way of working.”

Defour also had other suggestions. “In recent weeks, many concrete proposals have come my way, but in my head there was little doubt. As a starting coach, I can nowhere better than here, at the club of my heart.”

Defour will strengthen the technical staff around trainer Wouter Vrancken. It is not yet known what his specific task will be. “Steven has been working on his trainer course for some time. This new position can help him in his trajectory,” says sports director Tom Caluwé.

“For us it is fantastic to be able to add someone with so much international experience and a heart for the club to our team. This is a win-win for everyone.”
