“Kulakova night” on Roja open-air stage will start on August 21 at 6 pm, when the festival guests will perform – “Three Latvian tenors” – with Juris Kulakov’s folk song arrangements and classical opera hits, the group “Menuets”, as well as the cultural castle “Ziemeļblāzma” wind orchestra “Fanfara” with conductor Marcis Miķelsons.

According to Mohovikov, the main event of “Kulakov’s night” is a concert performance “A true philosopher is not a pessimist”, which will start at 20.30. In the first part, Kulakov’s cantata “Breast in Love” will be performed in the interpretation of the Riga Technical University (RTU) men’s choir “Gaudeamus” and the group “Thunder”.

The producer of the event pointed out that the choir “Gaudeamus” planned to celebrate its 60th anniversary last May with this composition, but due to the restrictions of the pandemic, it did not happen. In the second part of the concert performance, the group “Dzelzs vilks” and the group of young rock musicians “Sānuielas zēni” will perform. There will be both Veidenbaum’s inspirational poetry, versions of the composer Kulakov’s cycle “Seven and a Half Songs with the Words of Eduard Veidenbaum”, and the musicians’ own original compositions.

The “Kulakova night” tradition was established in 2015, and the first festival took place in Ogre, marking 30 years since the historical group “Pērkons” performed on the Ogre stage on July 6, 1985, when the group’s fans flocked to the existing communist system allegedly incited by provocateurs, two passenger train cars were demolished. Since then, the festival has visited the wind city of Liepaja, the Concert Hall “Cēsis”, Kulakov’s native Livani and Ikšķile stage, Mohovikovs said.
