KSAL Yudo Junior Andika, Impossible To Be TNI Commander

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Member of Commission I DPR RI from the United Development Party (PPP) Faction, Syaifullah Tamliha, said President Joko Widodo’s move to nominate the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Andika Perkasa as Commander of the Armed Forces was a very wise decision.

The reason, according to him, is that the Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL), Admiral Yudo Margono is Andika’s junior, so it is impossible to be nominated as TNI Commander.

“The decision to nominate General Andika Perkasa is a very wise policy, because it is impossible for the Navy [KSAL, Yudo] who is more junior than Andika then occupies the position of Commander of the TNI,” Tamliha told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/11).

However, according to him, Yudo still has the opportunity to become TNI Commander, considering that Yudo just retired in November 2023.

According to him, Yudo can serve as TNI Commander after Andika retires in December 2022.

“Yudo will also get the opportunity to become TNI Commander, after Andika retires,” he said.

Previously, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that the House of Representatives Commission I would hold a fit and proper test or fit and proper test Candidate for TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa starting tomorrow Thursday (4/11) to Friday (5/11) November 2021.

According to him, his party will hold a meeting of the Deliberative Body (Bamus) to discuss the Presidential Letter (Surpres) regarding Andika’s candidacy and schedule a fit and proper test for the TNI Commander candidate today.

“As soon as the Surpres was received today, the DPR Deliberative Body immediately held a meeting and scheduled a fit and proper test for the candidate for the TNI Commander in Chief from tomorrow to Friday,” Puan told reporters, Wednesday (11/3).
