Kris Bubic launches jewel and KC wins series in Detroit

DETROIT – Kris Bubic confirmed his dominance over the Tigers Sunday by pitching seven scoreless innings to guide the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 victory in Detroit.

Bubic (6-6) allowed just two hits and one walk, striking out six batters. He got just three earned runs in 23 innings in four appearances against Detroit this season.

Scott Barlow survived shaky labor in the ninth inning to score his 16th save.

Whit Merrifield had three hits and scored for Kansas City. Andrew Benintendi contributed two hits and one RBI.

Mexico’s Isaac Paredes had a pair of hits and produced the Tigers’ only run.

Detroit’s starter, right-hander Wily Peralta (4-4), entered the game on a 16-round run-free streak, but the Royals ended it in the first inning with an RBI single by Benintendi.

Kansas City won the weekend series 2-1 and its series against Detroit on the season 11-8.

For the Royals, Carlos Santana 2-1. The Venezuelan Salvador Pérez 5-2.

For the Tigers, Venezuelans Miguel Cabrera 4-1, and Harold Castro 1-0. The Mexican Paredes 3-2 with an RBI. Puerto Rican Willi Castro 3-0.
