Water supplies to Crimea may be considered in case of humanitarian disaster – Kravchuk

All responsibility for what is happening in the Crimea, while Russia bears, including – in the issue of providing water to the population, says Kravchuk.

Ukraine will consider supplying water to annexed Crimea only if a humanitarian catastrophe occurs on the peninsula. About it stated the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Leonid Kravchuk on the air of the Dom TV channel on Thursday, March 25.

“I have always emphasized: not just provide water, but if it happens, which I would not want, a humanitarian disaster in Crimea from the point of view of water supply … Therefore, the issue of water can be separately considered in the event of a humanitarian disaster, and not in the plan “Give me water, because Russia wants it,” said Kravchuk.

Kravchuk stressed that at the moment, Russia bears full responsibility for what is happening in Crimea. This also applies to the issue of providing the population with water.

“I am guided by international norms, namely: a country that has occupied any territory bears full responsibility for the lives of people in this territory. For the policy that it pursues there, for the state of the people. This is the responsibility of the occupying power, not Ukraine,” he explained politician.

According to Kravchuk, even if we have to consider the issue of supplying water to Crimea, this does not mean that water will be supplied immediately, since this should be preceded by a negotiation process.

“This is not done in such a way that a catastrophe happened, and some actions immediately take place. All over the world, such a process looks like this: an issue is discussed, decisions are made on certain conditions, and only after that it is possible to say how and what will be done,” summed up Kravchuk.

Recall that earlier melting snow did not improve the water supply to Crimea… The two main reservoirs of the peninsula remain on “dead volume” and do not fill up. It is no longer possible to take water from there to supply the population.
