Krakow: He escaped from quarantine on the rope because “he was sick of being in one place”

Police explain the case of a young man who, while in quarantine, left the place of detention to go for a walk, as well as a friend who visits him. They both tried to escape through the window. The incident took place in a hotel where policemen were also quarantined.

The spokesman of the Małopolska police, Sebastian Gleń, informed that both men were arrested on Saturday.

The first of them was made by an officer who was not on duty at the time – who was delivering purchases to other policemen staying in quarantine in one of the hotels – in the afternoon. As he approached the building He noticed a man who, descending a rope, was trying to leave a room on the first floor. Then he jumped up and started running away.

The officers observing the incident from the next room alerted a colleague in front of the hotel, and he chased the fugitive. A policeman, to whom one of the passers-by borrowed his bicycle, caught up with the escaping man, and then overpowered him and called a patrol to the place.

As it turned out, the fugitive was a 23-year-old Ukrainian who lives in Krakow. He did not have a designated quarantine, but decided to visit his colleagues who were staying in the hotel under compulsory quarantine related to the crossing of the border explained Glen.

Another intervention against a person living in this room took place on the same day in the evening. Then the policeman who had captured the fugitive received information from his colleagues that another man is trying to get out of the hotelgoing down the rope.

The officer quickly tracked him down near the building, and the patrol who arrived at the scene found out that he was a 28-year-old, also of Ukrainian nationality, under quarantine. He explained to the policemen that he had gone for a walk because “he was tired of being in one place”; then he returned to the place of solitary confinement, but was transferred to a higher floor.

The police are currently investigating both men. The Sanepid was also notified about the case, which may impose administrative penalties on persons violating the quarantine rules – Gleń said. As he reminded, people under quarantine cannot leave the place of isolation or meet other people.
