KPV LV proposes to delete from the law the norm on granting benefits to local government leaders and their deputies / Article / LSM.lv

Several deputies of the Saeima of the party “KPV LV” urge to delete from the law the norm on granting monthly benefits to local government leaders and their deputies, who can apply five years before reaching retirement age and later.

Deputies Ēriks Pucens, Ivars Puga, Ralfs Nemiro, Atis Zakatistovs and Iveta Benhena-Bēkena also refer to the TV3 program “Nekā personīga”, which previously reported that the State Audit Office (SAO) had revealed in its audit that special benefits comparable to long-service pensions are also granted to former mayors and their deputies who have failed to retain their positions.

Politicians of “KPV LV” urge to delete from the “Law on the Status of a Deputy of the City Council and County Council of the Republic” the norm on the benefit in the amount of two minimum monthly salaries for the chairman of the municipal council or council or his deputy. This norm stipulates that the benefit may be granted for five years before the retirement age or later, if the person is not working and does not receive unemployment benefit.

“KPV LV” points out that out of 21 local governments inspected by the SAO, such benefit was paid in 15 local governments, allocating a total of 307,740 euros. The SAO assumes that such benefits could be paid in at least 69 local governments.

MEPs say that the abolition of the benefit could lead to savings in social inclusion policies and poverty reduction.

“KPV LV” submitted the respective amendments to the Saeima in the second half of June, after this issue was raised by the program “Nekā personīga”.
