Presidential Office Respects KPU’s Confidentiality Policy for Candidate Documents
Jakarta, Indonesia – The Indonesian Presidential Office will not intervene in the General Elections Commission’s (KPU) recent decision to maintain the confidentiality of documents submitted by presidential and vice-presidential candidates, including educational credentials. This was affirmed by deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri ardiantoro on Monday.
Ardiantoro emphasized the KPU’s independence, stating, “They cannot be influenced by any other institution, including the executive branch. they are an independent institution, and we respect that.” He indicated that the KPU has already provided explanation regarding the policy and directed any further questions to the commission itself.
The KPU recently designated 16 documents required for candidate registration – encompassing items like educational certificates – as confidential. This policy, formalized in KPU Decree No. 731 of 2025, prevents public disclosure of these documents for a period of five years, unless explicit written consent is granted by the candidates or the facts is directly relevant to their official duties.
Ardiantoro reiterated the government’s respect for the KPU’s autonomy in managing the election process.
