KPU Document Confidentiality: Indonesia Official Statement

Presidential Office Respects KPU’s Confidentiality Policy for ⁤Candidate Documents

Jakarta, Indonesia – The Indonesian Presidential Office will not intervene in the General Elections ⁢Commission’s (KPU) recent decision to maintain the‍ confidentiality of documents submitted‍ by‍ presidential and⁢ vice-presidential candidates, including educational credentials.‌ This was affirmed ‌by deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri ardiantoro on Monday.

Ardiantoro emphasized the KPU’s independence, stating, “They⁤ cannot be influenced by any other institution, including the executive branch. they are an independent institution, and we respect that.” He indicated that⁢ the KPU ⁢has ‍already provided explanation regarding the policy and directed any further questions to the commission itself.

The KPU recently designated 16 documents required for candidate registration – encompassing items like educational certificates – as confidential. This ​policy, formalized⁢ in KPU Decree ⁣No. ​731 of 2025,​ prevents public‌ disclosure of these​ documents for a period of five years, unless explicit written consent is granted by‍ the candidates or the ⁣facts is directly⁣ relevant to their official‍ duties.

Ardiantoro reiterated ‌the government’s respect for the ⁤KPU’s autonomy ⁤in managing the​ election ⁣process.
