KPK scrutinizes DPR member Utut Adianto over money flow in Unila chancellor case

KPK targets RI DPR members of PDIP faction Utut Adianto regarding the alleged bribery of new student admissions which ensnared the Chancellor of Lampung University (Unila) Karomani. Utut was questioned about allegedly requiring prospective new Unila students to graduate.

This was revealed in an investigation by KPK investigators into Utut on Friday (11/25). Besides Utut, KPK investigators also target Mustopa Endi Saputra Hasibuan as a private employee and Uum Marli, who is a trader.

The KPK also summoned a number of other witnesses. They include Tamanuri as a Member of Indonesian Parliament, M Komaruddin as Chancellor of Untirta, Helmy Fitriawan as an official, Fatah Sulaiman as an official, Sulpakar as an official and Nizamuddin as a private party.

“All witnesses joined the investigative team’s summons and explored their knowledge, inter alia, related to the alleged application to graduate as new students through the intermediation of a confidant of suspect Karomani,” said the head of the reporting unit KPK Ali Fikri in his statement, on Friday (25/11/2022).

Apart from that, Ali said that KPK investigators are also exploring the issue of money flow to Karomani in the case that KPK is currently investigating.

“Besides this, the alleged delivery of money to suspect Karomani is being investigated further,” he added.

It is known that the KPK has named the chancellor of Unila Karomani as a suspect. In addition to Karomani, the Corruption Eradication Commission appointed Vice Chancellor I for Academic Affairs Unila Heryand, Senate President Unila Muhammad Basri and Private Andi Desfiandi.

In this OTT case, the KPK confiscated Rp 414.5 million in cash, deposit slips worth Rp 800 million and the key to a safety deposit box that was allegedly filled with gold worth Rp 1.4 billion of Rp. Additionally, the KPK confiscated ATM cards and savings accounts containing Rs 1.8 billion in cash.

The KPK suspects that Karomani was actively involved in determining the diploma of potential new students in the independent selection for entrance to Lampung University (Simanila). Karomani sets different prices for graduate students, from Rp. Rp 100 million. 350 million.
