Kozloduy NPP works for Romania and Serbia

The last pipe of Nord Stream 2 was welded on September 6.

Between 3 pm and 4 pm yesterday, Bulgaria exported 870 megawatts of electricity to Romania and 568 megawatts to Serbia. We delivered 150 megawatts to northern Macedonia. This makes 1588 megawatts and is equal to the production of one and a half units of Kozloduy NPP.

Only 7.7% of the total electricity production in our country comes from natural gas. TPP Varna, which is on gas, has been shut down – according to its managers, because expensive fuel makes electricity production unprofitable, but according to Bulgargaz, the reason is debts of BGN 24 million.

Hydropower provided 11% of electricity. In recent days, wind power plants have also been running, with more than 68% of their capacity being loaded, but they provided 6.4% of the electricity in this time period.

The main load was from coal – 41%, or over 3000 megawatts and from the nuclear power plant – 28.8%, or 2160 megawatts.

The price of industrial electricity with a day of delivery on December 15 yesterday was again a record, in Europe this time leads France with 346.28 euros per megawatt hour, over 300 euros was in Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Serbia. In our country, a megawatt-hour on the free market cost 236.64 euros, which is not a record because there were higher prices. More than 100 industry organizations have asked the government to continue to support businesses with compensation at the expense of energy companies’ excess revenues.

The new Prime Minister Kiril Petkov announced that the first task of the government is to tame the prices on the free market and not to increase its price for households, although the EWRC proposed an increase of 11.5% in electricity and 30% in heating in Sofia.

Gas prices in Europe were still high today. January futures for the largest gas exchange, the Dutch TTF, traded between 117 and 122 euros per megawatt-hour. The price of the Balkan gas hub for December 15 is BGN 214.05 per megawatt-hour.

The main reason for the constant rise in the price of the energy exchange is the connection with the European energy markets, due to which the impossibility to limit exports. The price of electricity in Europe since the summer has reached peak levels mainly due to expensive gas and its shortage, provoked to some extent by the still non-functioning Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Although in Bulgaria little electricity is produced from gas, the demand for electricity from Europe also affects the quotations in our country due to the open market.
