According to the Qatari Ministry of Home Affairs and the Korean Embassy in Qatar on the 31st (local time), on the night of the 23rd, a male sailor in his 20s fell into the sea from a merchant ship passing through the waters near Doha.
Qatar mobilized the Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard to search the area, and rescued Mr. A who was floating in the sea the next day.
Mr. A is said to have waited for rescue for 24 hours while holding a floating object he accidentally found in the sea.
Qatar’s Interior Ministry explained that “a large-scale search was carried out using helicopters and warships, and the rescued Koreans were immediately taken to Hamad Hospital in Doha and given first aid.”
Local media reported that Mr. A was in the sea for a long time, but was able to save his life thanks to the warm water temperature of 27 degrees.
It is known that Mr. A, who was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for two days, plans to return to Korea soon.
The Korean Embassy in Qatar said it thanked the Qatari government for its swift and active search.
