Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “Flu vaccine death report, not related to vaccine”


[아시아경제 배경환 기자] All cases reported to have died after getting an influenza (flu) vaccine this year were not related to vaccination.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the 5th, a total of 108 cases were reported as dead after being vaccinated against the flu as of 0 o’clock on that day, and the quarantine authorities completed all investigations and no association with the vaccine was confirmed.

Of the reported deaths to date, 81.5% (88) are over 70 years of age, with 48 or more being the most, followed by 40 in their 70s, and 10 in their 60s and under 60s each. The time taken to death after vaccination was over 48 hours in 68 patients (63.0%) and less than 24 hours in 19 patients (17.6%).

As of 0 o’clock that day, about 13.5 million free and free flu vaccinations were performed in Korea. Among a total of 1958,6225 people who are eligible for the national free vaccination program, 6 months to 12 years of age, pregnant women, 13 to 18 years old, 62 years of age or older, pensions, allowances, and medical benefit recipients, 1355,7611 cases were administered. The inoculation rate was 69.2%.

The number of reports of adverse reactions such as fever and local reactions after receiving the flu vaccine was 2017 as of 0 o’clock on the same day, of which no vaccination and causality were confirmed. Disease Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyung said, “People who have not received vaccination among the national vaccination project targets should complete the vaccination by the 31st.”
