«Kompani Lauritzen»: – Cancer-treated just before the TV recording

Last Saturday it became clear that Vida Lill Gausemel Berge (31), Faten Mahdi Al-Hussaini (27) and Edward Schultheiss (44) were the first three to leave «Kompani Lauritzen», which so far has had adventurous ratings this spring.

But it was not just participants who faced physical stress during the TV recording, which took place last autumn. One of the program’s commanders, Mari Thorsen (24), was informed only months before that she was seriously ill with an aggressive variant of lymphoma.

– I was told that I had cancer at the beginning of June, while the recording started at the beginning of September, Thorsen tells Se og Hør.

Felt in bad shape

The “Kompani Lauritzen” profile had to undergo a total of six chemotherapy regimens over a 12-week period, and when the recording started, it was not long since she had finished the last one.

– Therefore, I noticed that I was in very bad shape. In the first program, the participants had to go through physical tests, and it was actually me who had to take them out in the warm-up and to demonstrate what they were going through. But I did not succeed, says Thorsen, and continues:

– Those around me knew what the situation was like, but for me it was a contrast from the first season, where I was responsible for much of the physical. I had to leave it to others this time. The entire production knew about it, but there was no point in informing the participants about it since part of the point is that the commander should have a distant relationship with the recruits.

It was Trønder-Avisa who first mentioned the case.

– Properly on track

Now the 24-year-old is finally cancer-free, and to Se og Hør she makes no secret of the fact that it feels very liberating.

– In retrospect, I see how far down I was. But there and then I had expected it to be much worse. I was most grateful that I handled the treatment so well. I was very bad, but never as bad as I thought I would be.

The Levanger girl explains:

– When you hear about cancer as a disease, it is the examples of horror that come to mind. When I see myself on TV I see how different I was in the face, I had a lot of water in my body as a consequence of medication. And then I see that I was really on edge, even though I probably was not fully aware of it myself.

– Was a little scared

Company Lauritzen commander Mari Thorsen nevertheless also brings with her positive experiences and lessons from the tough months.

– Now I have experienced being a patient and standing in what many find difficult. Many people had trouble talking to me about this – because they were afraid to say something wrong. But for my part, it was not like I did not want to talk about it. I am left with the idea that it is important to talk and address the elephant in the room.

Thorsen was first told that the lymphatic cancer was of the aggressive kind, which naturally led to great concerns, not just for his own part.

– Both I and those around me were a little scared, because we did not know what it meant. But then we gradually realized that this form is easier to cure because the cancer had arisen relatively quickly. I was told early on that the treatment I received, I received it because I was going to get well. From my side, there was no other alternative either, says the “Kompani Lauritzen” profile to Se og Hør.
