Komjen Boy Responds to Petition to Disband BNPT Initiated by Ex-Terrorist Convicts

“Dissolve BNPT because there is no performance in tackling acts of terrorism,” reads the petition as seen on the website change.org, Friday (17/9/2021).

The petition has appeared since September 11, 2021. So far, 51 of the target 100 people have signed the petition.

In the narration, it is stated that the training of terrorism convicts by BNPT not much effect. The petition also highlights the issue of BNPT’s budget.

Responding to the petition, Head of BNPT Komjen Boy Rafli Amar assessed that the terrorists and their allies really wanted BNPT to disband.

“Terrorists and their allies really want BNPT to disband. The state must not lose to terrorists,” said Boy when contacted.

Boy then explained that the additional budget proposed by BNPT had not been granted by the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu). Even BNPT budget existing ones have been cut to support the COVID-19 response.

“The proposed additional budget has not been approved by the Ministry of Finance, because it is the budget cuts (refocusing) to support the response to COVID-19,” Boy said when contacted.

“In 2021 alone, the existing budget has been cut 3 times. The information above is generally misinformation,” he added.

Further, Boy conveyed deradicalization program keep going. He said that more than 800 ex-terrorist convicts had undergone the BNPT deradicalization program.

“Various programs with a welfare approach for ex-convicts have been implemented. More than 800 ex-convicts have participated in the deradicalization program,” said Boy.
