Kokins: the votes cast show that the mistakes made in the precincts were not malice – in Latvia – News

On Thursday, on the basis of the judgments of the Administrative Regional Court, the votes of the bulletins placed in the previously declared invalid envelopes were counted at the Riga Congress House. The addition of ballot papers placed in unstamped and incorrectly stamped ballot envelopes in three polling stations to the results of the Riga City Council’s extraordinary elections did not affect the preliminary composition of the newly elected Riga City Council.

According to Kokin, the vote of each voter is important, so it was only logical that the votes in unstamped envelopes were included in the election results.

Kokin is ready to be judged on his responsibility for mistakes, but some of them have been “objectively programmed”, ie mistakes have occurred because politicians have rapidly introduced various innovations in the electoral regulation.

The decision on the date of convening the first session of the new Riga City Council has not been made yet, because until then it has to make preparations, for example, prepare technically, meet with factions to prepare for the first session, etc. The first meeting is expected from September 29.

As reported, after the counting of votes in three polling stations on Thursday, the Riga City Election Commission today plans to approve the results of the council’s extraordinary elections. The meeting of the commission will take place at 3 pm in the Riga Congress House on the premises of the commission.

“Development / For!” Has won the most votes in the extraordinary elections of the Riga City Council and the “Progressive” (APP) joint list, followed by “Harmony” and “New Unity”.

The election results to be confirmed show that seven political forces have entered the Riga City Council. The APP list will be under the mandates of 18 deputies, “Sadarba” will get 12 council chairs, “New Unity” – ten, the National Union and the Association of Latvian Regions – seven, “Honor to serve Riga” five, but the Latvian Russian Union and the New Conservative Party – four seats each.
