KNVB ‘intervenes’: drinking breaks in professional football due to heat Football

“According to the weather forecast, we will have tropical temperatures this weekend. It is therefore important for players, staff members and (assistant) referees to continue to drink enough. The international guideline for UEFA competitions prescribes that during the match drinking moments are only allowed during injury treatments, but in this specific case it has been decided to deviate from the international guideline,” according to the KNVB.

The football association has asked the professional football referees to make clear agreements with both teams about extra drinking breaks next weekend, prior to the match.

The measure relates to the Eredivisie, the Kitchen Champion Division and the KNVB Cup. The second round of the Eredivisie will be ushered in on Friday with Excelsior – Vitesse. PSV and Feyenoord will play on Saturday, Ajax will play on Sunday.
