Kinzigtal Hausach BUND with new management trio news of the Ortenau

The local group Mittleres Kinzigtal is one of the most active in the whole country. The Annual General Meeting sees climate change and the energy transition as future focus topics.

“In recent years you have become the voice of nature and environmental protection and the voice of our association in the Kinzigtal”, quoted Karl-Heinz Wössner in the general meeting of the BUND Mittleres Kinzigtal Thomas Giesinger, the coordinator for volunteering at BUND Baden-Württemberg. The quote was given at a closed meeting in January 2019, when the board of directors and ten other activists determined its strategy and program for 2019/20.

In fact, the belated review of the events and projects in 2019, backed up with pictures by Karin Pätzold, was very long and varied. The general meeting had to be postponed in March due to the corona pandemic. In addition to many lectures and excursions, the large butterfly exhibition at six different locations in the Kinzig valley, the questionnaire campaign for the candidates for the municipal elections and the cooperation with the Haslach cinema center for a monthly environmental film stood out.

Yannik Hinzmann new on the board

Child and youth work, especially in Hornberg, as well as the Repair Café in Haslach were also recorded as successes. The BUND local group has joined the Ortenau Climate Alliance and thus came into contact with the young people from Fridays for Future. This obviously had a positive effect on the election of the board. The young Haslacher Yannik Hinzmann, who is very committed there, was unanimously elected to the trio of the board – together with Karin Pätzold from Hornberg and the previous chairman Karl-Heinz Wössner from Haslach.

Much was continued in 2020, with new support from the “BI Storchenwiese Haslach”, the information stand on Earth Congestion Day on August 22nd and the “Roadside Green” campaign with information material for all mayor’s offices.

The topic of the energy transition and climate change

For the mowing of embankments there are precise guidelines from the state, to which the road construction authority adheres – but not the municipalities, which delegate this work to farmers without guidelines, explained Angelika Kalmbach-Ruf. The outgoing chairwoman left the newly elected trio of board members a mortgage: The BUND Mittleres Kinzigtal, as one of the most active local groups in the state, would be entitled to a seat on the state board.

Angelika Kalmbach-Ruf and Karl-Heinz Wössner reported on the pumping attempts requested by Peterstaler am Kniebis. According to their assessment, the regional council will allow the experiments. Here, on December 3rd, they would like to meet with the citizens’ initiative, BUND Renchtal and the Northern Black Forest regional association to discuss a strategy. “Water is a human right and must never be sacrificed to optimize profits,” emphasized Kalmbach-Ruf.

Climate change and the energy transition were identified as further key issues for the future. A workshop is planned for next year.
