Kim Schmitt strengthens the left wing of the HSG Freiburg – Handball 2. Bundesliga

Second entry for the second division handball players of the HSG Freiburg: Kim Schmitt comes from TuS Steilingen and could compensate Alica Burgert’s departure at the Red Sparrows.

The squad for the upcoming second division season will continue to grow among the HSG Freiburg handball players. According to goalkeeper Svenja Wunsch (from third division club SG Kappelwindeck / Steinbach), the Red Sparrows now have access number two: Kim Schmitt is moving from Lake Constance to Breisgau. The 23-year-old wing player comes from the top division TuS Steilingen.

“Kim is a stroke of luck for us.” HSG trainer Ralf Wiggenhauser

Schmitt started her handball career at TSG Wiesloch before moving to HSG Bensheim-Auerbach in the youth division. Here she played in the A-Youth Bundesliga and then made the leap into the first team that was then playing in the second Bundesliga. With the Flames, she even managed to advance to the first division. For professional reasons she was drawn to Lake Constance, where she went chasing goals for TuS Steilingen.

According to her own statements, Schmitt is particularly looking forward to “the mega atmosphere at home games”, which she had already experienced as a spectator at the Red Sparrows last season. “I think Kim is an absolute stroke of luck for us. I have only heard good things about her and think that this is a really good newcomer,” HSG coach Ralf Wiggenhauser is quoted in a press release from the club.

After a cruciate ligament tear, Schmitt is currently still in training for the new round. When she is fit again, she could fill the gap left by Alica Burgert by moving to TuS Ottenheim.
