The Japanese government, reported by NHK, said the missile tested was likely a ballistic missile.
Meanwhile, South Korean media Yonhap News, reported that Pyongyang fired at least one unidentified projectile into the East Sea otherwise known as the Sea of Japan.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff have not provided other details about Pyongyang’s missile launch.
Reports of the Kim Jong-un regime’s missile tests spread just as North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations, Kim Song, took the podium and delivered a speech before the UN General Assembly in New York City.
In his speeches, the North Korean diplomat repeatedly condemned what he called the “hostile policies” of the US and its allies towards Pyongyang, including the deployment of thousands of American troops in South Korea.
“The US hostile policy towards the DPRK finds its clearest expression in its military threats against us,” he said, using an acronym for his country’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
