Voting in the “elections” in Crimea

Russia is passing off wishful thinking, calling several marginal politicians “international observers” at the “elections” in Crimea, Oleg Nikolenko stressed.

The presence of agents of Russian influence in the annexed Crimea to observe the “elections” to the State Duma of the Russian Federation is their private initiative. This does not legitimize the illegal electoral process on the peninsula. Oleg Nikolenko, Speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, said this in a comment to the agency. Interfax-Ukraine Monday, September 20th.

“We regard the arrival of agents of Russian influence on the Crimean peninsula as their private initiative. They represent no one but themselves. This trip in no way legitimizes the illegal electoral process,” Nikolenko said.

He noted that Russia is passing off wishful thinking, calling several marginal politicians “international observers” in the “elections” in Crimea.

“Foreign governments have clearly stated that they will not recognize the results of the Russian vote in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Moreover, according to our information, our partners warned their politicians against visiting the Crimean peninsula. There is no reason to question the consolidated international position on Crimea,” Nikolenko stressed.

Earlier, Russian media reported that ex-deputy of the French parliament Michel Voisin, deputy of the French National Assembly Jerome Lambert, secretary of the Economic and Social Council of Serbia Dusan Petrovic arrived in Crimea as “international observers” at the “elections” to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

We will remind, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed its protest to Russia over the holding of “elections” to the State Duma on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and Donbass. Kiev demanded strengthen sanctions against Moscow.

Also, the Verkhovna Rada adopted an appeal to international organizations with a call not to recognize the elections to the State Duma Russia in the event of a vote in the occupied part of the territory of Ukraine – in Crimea and the part of Donbass not controlled by Kiev.
