Kid Cudi Announces Hiatus From Albums, Shifts Focus to Directing, acting, and Fashion
Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi has announced he is stepping back from releasing solo albums for the foreseeable future, opting to concentrate on directing, acting, painting, and fashion. The announcement came via Twitter on Tuesday, September 2nd, following the release of Free, his final album with Republic Records.
This marks a critically important turning point for the artist, who spent over a decade with the major label and consistently delivered music to his fanbase. While Free debuted at No. 192 on the Billboard 200-the lowest chart position for a Cudi solo album-the release symbolically represented his newfound independence. Cudi intends to channel his creative energy into other ventures, including a self-directed short film for his song “Mr.Miracle,” expected to drop in the coming weeks.
Cudi expressed gratitude to his fans for thier support of free, stating, “I’m so grateful I have y’all in my corner.” He explained that Free was intentionally titled as such, signifying his departure from major label constraints and embrace of independence.
Despite the album’s chart performance, Cudi has experienced success beyond music, recently appearing in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2 in July.Prior to free, he released two albums in 2023: INSANE and Insane (nitro mega), totaling approximately 40 songs.
“It’s gonna be a while ’til y’all hear another album from me, but I promise when I do come again, it won’t be boring,” Cudi assured fans, signaling a potential return to music at an unspecified date.
