Kick to Avoid the Governor of West Sumatra About Letters Asking for Donations

Jakarta

Signed letter Governor of West Sumatra (West Sumatra) Mahyeldi containing a request for donations for the publication of a widely circulated book. Responding to the letter requesting donations, Mahyeldi issued an evasive move.

The letter, which was signed by the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi, started when the police arrested five people for bringing a letter asking for donations for the publication of a book that was signed by Mahyeldi. The police said the donors claimed to have received around Rp. 170 million in funds.

“We have secured it and taken it to Mapolresta for inspection,” said Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Padang Police, Kompol Rico Fernanda, to reporters on Thursday (19/8/2021).

The arrests of the five people were carried out last Friday (13/8). They were initially arrested on suspicion of fraud.

From the results of the examination, the five visited businessmen, campuses, and other parties with a letter bearing the West Sumatra Governor’s logo and Mahyeldi’s signature. The letter numbered 005/3984/V/Bappeda-2021 dated May 12, 2021 regarding the publication of the profile and potential of the Province of West Sumatra.

“Hopefully your willingness to participate and contribute in sponsoring the preparation and publication of the book,” continued the letter which was also affixed with the official seal of the Governor of West Sumatra.

The perpetrators also brought a letter with a letterhead from the West Sumatra Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda). From the five confessions, said Rico, they acknowledged that they received approval from Bappeda and the Governor of West Sumatra Mahyeldi.

After checking, the letter turned out to be genuine. The five people were later released.

“We did not detain these five people, because these five people admitted that the letter was genuine. It came from the Governor and his confidants,” said Rico.
